Weekend Fun in KC

We headed to Longview Lake for Andy's triathlon on Sunday.  He was the first one in his age group to finish the 500 meter swim.

Then he was off on a 20 km bike ride.

And then a 5 km run.  Look he's smiling (above)!

And a strong finish at the end.

Mom, Dad, and I met up with Sharon, Margaret, and John in Liberty for the buffet at Taj Mahal.  Mmmm, Indian food is so good!!

And below is my folks' home with its new siding and windows!

Arrrgghh!  My cap and goggles are too tight!

Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures. It looks like everyone is having fun. Andy looks pretty cool. He does not look like someone who just finished a triathalon, thats for sure. It was nice to see pics of you, your folks, Andy, Leigh, Sharon, and John and Margaret. Everyone is so casual yet chic.

It does look like you had a fabulous birthday! The Emporia group really know how to throw a birthday tea party. The race day was perfect. I think I mentioned how seeing the flag draped across the road from the ladder fire truck brought a tear to the eye. I have to say that watching the athletes was so impressive. They were all an inspiration and Katie after completing the whole thing in what to me was an unbelievable time, you were out there by the finish line cheering on those to follow, with enthusiastic words of encouragement. I personally would have collapsed on the grass. If you ever gave up teaching you could be a life coach. John has been riding three times a week since the race. He rode 20 miles on Thursday and Sunday we went back to Smithville Lake and rode the whole Cabin Fever bike trail. It is about 18 miles for the whole loop. The problem was the wind. It had some very brisk gusts. I thought of Trent. If it wasn't for the wind it would have been a perfect bike ride, but even without the wind I slow John down. Sharon and Ellen worked very hard at the finish line. They are great volunteers. If you ever get the chance to even watch a triathlon in Emporia---GO! You will really enjoy the whole experience. I will always just be a spectator though-----John I think would be willing to do a relay team again if anyone wants a 69 year old bike rider.
The steak dinner looked pretty good too. someday I will get to meet the beautiful Leigh and try those sweets! Happy Birthday Katie!
