Poem

I found a poem by the poet, Rumi, which is new to me. It is titled Tending Two Shops. I found it in a book called The Essential Rumi. I will not post the entire poem because it is too long. Here are some of my favorite lines:

Tending Two Shops

Don't run around this world

looking for a hole to hide in.

There are wild beasts in every cave!

If you live with mice,

the cat claws will find you.

The only rest comes

when you're alone with God.

I hope these lines brought new insight. These words strengthened and enlightened me. It makes me happy to share them.

Thank you, Honor, for sharing these wise words.

Here are some from "Black Oaks" by Mary Oliver:

Listen, says ambition, nervously shifting her weight from / one boot to another--why don't you get going?

For there I am, in the mossy shadows, under the trees.

And to tell the truth I don't want to let go of the wrists / of idleness, I don't want to sell my life for money, / I don't even want to come in out of the rain.

(p. 5 of Blue Iris -- thank you, Honor!)

Yes! I have been idle most of today, reading and reading and reading. Idleness is delicious!

How loverly that you could spend a day doing what you want to do. I am glad you like the poems in Blue Iris. Mary Oliver is one of my favorite poets. She is a soothing seer. it is a treat to share thoughts on prose and poetry with you Katie. By the way, you are a wonderful, delicious poet yourself.
