I have never posted photos to the blog before, but John and I are going to give it a try, hope it comes out ok. John cut down some trees on the property, some were dead, others were damaged from storms, anyway he found a guy in Liberty who owns a portable saw mill. This guy brought it out to the property and they spent the day sawing logs. One of the logs was about 36 feet long. A neighbor had to help John pull it up to the pasture with his tractor. It was an all day event. John was pretty tired at the end of the day, but also pretty darn proud of his bounty of boards.

This reminds me of a cartoon Matthew use to watch when he was little called, The rug Rats. The main characters were all babies. One night when the babies were in the backyard playing they got scarred and made themselves brave by saying,"I'm a big bad dog, I'm a big bad dog." Matthew used that same line once when we were out hiking. I guess he was scarred and decided to try it. It sounds like Jack was "the big bad dog."
This is cool! What will you do with the boards?
And, Carol, thanks for sharing your Matthew story. I love that he tried out the Rugrats line to give himself courage. I'm going to try that next time I'm feeling scared. "I'm a big bad dog."
Thanks for posting the picture and the story behind the picture. Country life is interesting. How do you find time to run a business?
I think John just likes to have the boards. He loves the color, texture and smell of his newly sawed logs. He loves splitting wood too. He enjoys gazing out at a pile of wood. It is like a little wooden security blanket. You will always be warm if you have a wood pile. I actually think that sometime down the road he is going to re-trim the kitchen. He doesn't like the wood trim around the kitchen windows. I think it was part of an old banister or something that he and his first wife Sharon had in an old farm house. We will see if it ever happens.
I too think it was very clever of Matthew to repeat the line "I'm a big bad dog", when he was frightened. Jack too might have been saying that to himself "I'm a BIG BAD DOG", but because he was kind of full of himself for going on a walk about in the woods. Life in the country can be interesting. We have had a fox running around in the front yard lately. Perhaps that is was set Jack off into the woods. His personal version of The Fox and the Hound.
I am glad you enjoyed the Free Dog Jack story. He is a character sometimes.
