snickerooter

While looking for the snickerooter Tom found a 6ft long black snake with a yellow stripe down its back. Harmless. It's not the creature we are hearing. The only snake that makes a sound is a rattler. It may be an alien. It does have tiny green eyes. It's less afraid of us now so I was able to get all the way to the pond and just stand there in the dark and watch and listen. Then Tom found this snake and I decided to stop going out there. We were able to find similar sounds of animals on the internet and it maybe a prairie dog. Not so scary now it just seems cute. It will probably remain one of the great mysteries. All of this going on in our own backyard, who needs tv?

Maybe you could name the prairie dog Snickers. That's kind of cute. By the way, I have not had a Snicker's bar in at least 2 years. If I remember right, they are rich, nutty and full of caramel. Sounds wonderful. But I am not in the habit of buying candy; especially candy bars. Snickers was my favorite though. And I loved Almond Joy and Mounds. Paydays were also on my list.

I am glad the creature is no longer scary..... But I imagined you and Tom developing a cottage industry around the Snickerrooter. You could sell hats with the Snickerrooter logo on them. Greyhound busses filled with tourists could pull up to your door. You could sell Snickerrooter Krispies and tell stories about Snickerrooter sightings. Keep all this in mind, Carol, unless you just happen to enjoy the quiet.

Ah ha ha ha ha! Fabulous ideas, Honor! Along with Elevator Boy, you could write the story of mythical creature, Snickerrooter. You've got two ideas for children's books already -- and you can write from experience, the best way to do it!

Mmmmm, I love Mounds. Whoever decided to combine coconut and chocolate is a genius.

P.S. Carol, I meant YOU could write those books from experience, but I bet Honor would be a good co-author or editor. :-)

I love the book idea about Snickerrooter. But I think, Katie, that you would be the perfect mentor and editor for Carol. After all, you created the word snickerrooter. Just think, they might make a movie about Snickerrooter. That is the kind of word children like to say. They can practice saying it while making Snickerdoodles. Movie theaters could host Snickerrooter parties and serve warm snickerdoodles to the children. Or Snicker bars. Or Snicker krispies, whatever they are. And think of the movie posters with the cute prairie dog munching a cookie....
WOW!!!! I think you two are digging in paydirt here.

Honor, you're the genius with marketing ideas ... I think you'll be our publisher. HK Publishing. I like the sound of that. Now, I need to get me some snickerdoodles!

Well Snickerrooter sounds a lot like Trixie the Beagle. She makes this snorting rooting sound when she has her nose to the ground. Maybe your mythical night visitor is part beagle/prairiedog/minature pig. It could have short brwon/balck/tan hair, a pig snout, short stubby ears and short stubby paws. Here is a link to PD sounds.

I think you should give your Snickerrooter a name and some personality traits. Of course prairie dogs live in colonies, so you may have a prairie dog town on your property.

Ok, I just saw where Honor already gave your night creature a name---Snickers. That is cute, but it makes me hungry.
