Recommendation

I checked a book out of the library and I really like it. The name of the book is Magic Foods for Better Blood Sugar. The publisher is Reader's Digest. The reason I like this book is because there is a lot of current information about how food affects the body in it. Recipes and menus are also included. The recipes sound good, are affordable, and the correct portion size is given for each recipe. A person does not have to be a diabetic to use this book. Everyone is affected by blood sugar whether they are diabetic or not. "High blood sugar after meals can, over time, damage the body, even if it Never causes diabetes states the author. What are the health affects of an unhealthy diet? : Memory loss, low energy, weight gain, diabetes, mood swings, fatigue, heart attacks and cancer. Clearly, it is important for all of us to learn to eat right. Check the library shelves for Magic Foods for Better Blood Sugar. I bet the librarian can locate a copy, even if he/she has to borrow it from another library. I think you will be impressed with this book.

I forgot to mention that this book gives a thumbs up to the use of vinegar. Of course, Dad believed that vinegar contributed to good health. The writers agree. The acid in vinegar slows the digestive process which helps lower blood sugar. Make a salad dressing with vinegar and olive oil and enjoy!!! (Just like Mom used to do.) Yeah Mom and Dad!!!!

Thanks for sharing this helpful resource with us, Honor! That is interesting info about high blood sugar ... makes me want to consider my own sugar intake to determine if I'm getting too much (more than likely, I am). I do know that anytime I eat sugary foods when I'm hungry, I feel fatigued shortly thereafter.

Good for you for doing so much research on this topic. You are a great resource for all of us!

It's so hard to get away from sugar. Hard to believe something so good is so bad for you.

It is hard to stay away from unhealthy carbs like french fries, white bread, soda pop, noodles in heavy cream sauces, etc. All of these foods turn into sugar quickly which can raise blood sugar levels and then quickly lower them. Of course desserts can do the same thing. And I would love a cupcake or a cookie right now! Ha! Ha!
