Ah the 4th of July. The holiday where Americans can celebrate their independence by creating noise and air pollution. This is my least favorite holiday because it allows the freedom of those who want to create this noise and air pollution to take priority over those who don't want that experience and there is nothing you can do about it except wait it out. Fireworks scare our pets and wildlife, plus with so many military returning with PTSD I would suspect that for some the noise can create a PTSD event for them. Many of the fireworks are made in other countries which may contain lead, so breath deeply when you shoot off that gunpowder. Plus, since many of these fireworks are made in countries where they pay their workers pennies a day for 12-14 hours of work, you are supporting a form of slave labor. All in all bad karma to me. So that is my stick in the mud rant, but if you do decide to spread noise and air pollution and slave labor then be safe and may all your fingers and toes be with you on the 5th.

I hope you all had a great time celebrating the fourth and Margaret's b-day!!! I wish I could have been there, but I was definitely thinking about all of you.

Margaret, I'm listening to some damn fireworks right now, and Sal is scared and weird. It's 11:00 p.m., and I want to go to bed, dag nabbit.

Noise and air pollution. I'm with ya.

And I never thought about the PTSD. Good point.

I like the concept of an Independence Day celebration. I like to reflect on our history and the flawed individuals who came together to help "form a more perfect union." Where would we be without them?

At the same time, I think we should take firecrackers away from amateurs. Let's let a professional put on a community fireworks display at one designated time. Maybe the 4th would be more peaceful and the public wouldn't suffer 4th of July injuries.
