Hola, family and Beth-Beautiful-Smile-Leyva!
Got a job offer on Thursday from WSU. 10% pay cut, BUT based on online figures, that's to be expected in Wichita and in the Midwest for my field. (Actually, Kennesaw to Wichita figures indicate that I should get a 20% pay cut, so actually the WSU offer is generous).
We're taking the weekend to think it over ... THANK GOODNESS, because our initial reaction was to simply stand our ground (no more than a 2.5% pay cut). But time and reflection have allowed us to put things into perspective, I think. As I drove home from work, I looked past all the stress (and risk) of trying to sell our house in this market (not to mention packing/moving, teaching and advising at KSU all summer, and planning fall courses for WSU) and realized that at this point, all we have to do is say "yes." If we just say yes, then we're back in Kansas.
And for the past 24 hours, we've been on the "yes" wagon. We've been getting realtor recommendations, decluttering the house, deep cleaning, and staging it. We're trying to get things going.
Of course, we still have another 36 hours before I have to call WSU with our final decision (and even then, the position is contingent on the Board of Regents' funding -- typical clause -- until I sign a contract). But I'm pretty sure we're going to make a go of it. Kansas, here we come!
We can't wait to see you!

WooHoo!!!! How exciting. It will take a lot of work to accomplish the move, but the good news is, you are moving home. No more marathon drives to see family. Yes!!!
Do you feel really good about the move, other than the money factor? I frankly thought the salary cut would be more. But, do you like the faculty and the town? I want the staff and the administration to treat your amazing self well. Do you have good feelings about your Wichita contemporaries? That is important. If so, WELCOME TO WICHITA KATIE AND TRENT MASON!!!!!
I bet your folks are excited!!!
Your Aunties are too. And your Cousins!!!
JUST THINK! You beat a lot of competitors to get this job. Way to go Katie!!!
I think WSU has a very good athletic department. The baseball and basketball teams are very competitive. They get a lot of press attention, at least in our part of the state.
Your house does not look cluttered. It looks beautiful on the inside and the outside. It will show well. You and Trent have done an excellent job of caring for your home.
CONGRATULATIONS KATIE!! YEAH!!!!
Katie, I'll be so happy to have you a lot closer! I hope everything goes smoothly in the transistion & hope to get to see you a lot more often.
Well I give WSU points for being intelligent enough to offer you the job and I guess I grudgingly give them some points for offering you a little more money than what might have been expected for the Wichita/mid-west area, but still I wish it was better and I wish they hadn't been such pokes. They better be nice to you and really really appreciate the caliber of professor they are getting. Those rural little red-neck kids better not give you any trouble either! I know you and Trent will work through all the pros and cons of "should we go or should we stay".
Your house is beautiful inside and out and trust me Katie you have not seen clutter until you come to my house, every nook, cranny, crevice and crack is occupied by an object or dust(dust sounds so much nicer than "dirt"). I know there are no guarantees but it would not surprise me if your home sells quickly. I know it will be a mega stressful summer, but it will have a short duration. There will be a light at the end of the tunnel.
We are all very proud of you Katie and we look so forward to having you back in Kansas(if that is what happens)and although I can't give you massages all the time, maybe I can give them to you more frequently, when you come home for a visit. Maybe we will do a coyote howl this year and you can come---usually last Saturday in October weather permitting. Well my final thought is may you and Trent be at peace with whatever your final choice is. Love you.
Thanks for all of your encouragement, my beautiful family. I can't wait until we're living near all of you again!!!
Honor, yes--I feel good about WSU. The faculty were extremely kind and supportive, and I think I'll be very happy there. The transition will be challenging, but I think if I give it 110% from the beginning, I'll learn my new role and settle in to the position.
I love you guys!!!
