Hey, Fiddler Family (and their Relations)! Are you ready to reconnect? Let's use this blog to share and respond to the stories of our daily lives--from the monumental events to the everyday humdrums. Write about the books you're reading, the movies you're watching, the politics that piss you off. Let's share our frustrations and hurts, along with our successes and joys. Poetry, prose, lists, prayers, images--anything goes on this blog. It's time to reconnect.

Hi. Good to hear from you. Your mother has basic information about the Fiddler/Fiedler family. Her information includes the names of our great grandparents and their children. It also includes the names of our grandparents, when they came to America, and the names of their children. In June, some of our German cousins from Michigan will be in KC for a visit. You could come to KC and talk to them. They will be here from June 15th - 20th.
Information about your maternal grandmother's side of the family may be sparse in places. Norma Fiddler's mother was Honor Consier. Her maiden name was Cooper. She was from Great Briton. She was one of 17 children. We do not know all of her sibling's names. She had a sister named Lill Watson who lived in Canada. Lill married Fred Watson. She also had sisters named Imogene and Matilda. Lill and Honor were fearless in my estimation. They migrated to Canada as young women because they wanted better opportunities. Think how much courage that took.
Grandpa Consier was born in Canada. He was an orphan. He migrated to the USA early in life and worked in New York. He also traveled this country doing odd jobs. He returned to Canada and joined the military during WWl. Later, he married Honor in Canada, had a daughter named Norma Louise, and eventually moved to the United States. Originally, the family lived in Detroit. Grandpa became a citizen of this country and Norma became naturalized at that time as well.
All your Aunts have information to share. We should get together and pool our knowledge. It might be fun.
Welcome back Dylan Riley. It is good to hear your voice on the blog. Don't be such a stranger.
Have fun with the family tree. I hope you are able to come up with some new information to share. The cousins from Michigan might give you some stories about great-grandmother Fiedler, as they actually grew up with her in their lives. They may have information about your great grandfather Fiedler and their children. We are having a cookout on Saturday June 19th at Aunt Sharon's house around 5:00 or so. Take the day off if you can and come! Here is a bit of info:
Honor Cooper was born in Huddersfield England. Her mother was Alice. The names of some of Honor's siblings were: Tilly, Lily, Clara, Mable, John, Tom and Sally. Three brothers died as infants. Honor was engaged to a Canadian man, but dumped him when he didn't help her when crossing an icy road. She was visiting her brother-in-law in the hospital and that is how she met "her Billy"----William Louis Consier.
William Louis Consier: He may have been born in Quebec Canada. Grandpa's mother was Annie. His father Maurice. He had two brothers who married French girls, but they died in WWI and one sister who also died during WWI. Grandpa came to the U.S. as a child and did shoe shining. He was a cook for the railroad in Wyoming. He went back to Canada to join the Canadian army during WWI. He contracted malaria in Egypt during the war. It was in the Canadian hospital he met his "Old Dear".
William and Honor were married in Winnepeg and then moved Toronto. Mom was born in Cooksville in Canada.
You may have already gotten this information from your mom.
We have some of medals that Grandpa Consier rcvd as well as his citizenship papers I believe, although they are in taters.
Come to the cookout and bring a notebook and camera and have some fun. We would love to see you.
You shared a lot of good information, Fiddler. I had forgotten some of these details and did not know others. I would like to see Grandpa's medals sometime. I did not realize they existed. Thanks for posting.
Hope to see you at the cookout on the 19th, Dylan Riley.
What I meant to say, D.R., in my last post is, Hope to see you on JUNE 19th at Sharon's cookout.
Wow--this is great information. I like Honor Cooper a lot. Thanks for posing this question, D.R., and thanks to Honor and Margaret for sharing their knowledge.
I can't wait to see this family tree!!
