Trent's been toying with the idea of doing a triathlon for a few months now, and the last couple of weeks he's hopped in the water with me for a short swim workout on Tuesday mornings.
Today, we went to a triathlon training class at our YMCA, and it was great! Trent swam 950 yards--over half a mile! In my lane, I paced off some speedy guys and had a pretty stellar workout too. Then, we went to a 45 minute cycle class, followed by a 1-mile run.
The swim workout is longer than the sprint triathlon we'll do; the bike is about the same, and the 1-mile run is about 2 miles less than the actual race. So, we're planning to add some time to our runs each week until we've built up to closer to race distance. We'll see how it goes.
I'm really proud of Trent though. He held his own in his swim lane, and our coach says that he'll be moving up to the next lane very soon. He's a fish in the water!
Hope all is well for everyone!

I frankly do not know how you have the stamina to swim, cycle and run on the same day. I guess you have built up your endurance so that you can. Congratulations to both of you. You work hard at maintaining your health. You will really see the benefits years from now. You will undoubtedly still be mobile when others can hardly get around. And it sounds like you are having fun. Yeah!!!!!
Ok now I am exhausted. You guys are amazing! Enjoy your workouts and the time you spend together. I think there is a motto: The family that plays together, stays together.
It's wonderful how you encourage one another. I'll be rooting for you guys!
Thanks for the encouragement, Aunties. :-)
We're having fun. Today we went back for another round, and it felt easier ... and more fun. Neither of us is as tired as we were last week.
I think we might sign up for a June triathlon this weekend. Something to work toward and look forward to. Some of the gals in my training group are trying to convince me to do a 5K swim from Georgia to North Carolina this summer. That could be fun, too. I'll have to check the cost.
