Hello, Fiddler Kin! I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. Trent and I read online that there was a 30-car pile-up on I-35 due to fog this morning. I hope you are all staying safe and warm in the Midwest.
We've finally departed from frigid temperatures down here--yay! A week and a half ago my flight back to Kansas for Melissa Glaser's wedding was delayed (cancelled and then pushed back) for two days because of KC weather and then ice in Atlanta. Thanks to my mom, however, I made it to Manhattan just in time to run into the church, hug the bride, and grab the best man's arm at the wedding rehearsal. The ceremony the next day was beautiful, and the bride and groom looked very, very happy. I was happy, too, because I got to hang out with my parents, Andy, and Aunt Sharon on Sunday. We had a ham dinner and played Phase 10 Twist.
In other news, I've applied for a position at Wichita State University. They received my application yesterday, and now the ball is in their court. I feel good about what I have to offer, but I'm also very happy at Kennesaw State. According to my two colleagues whom I've told about this (who are also on my list of references), I'm in the best position to make a lateral move to another university: I'm happy where I am (and doing well), so I don't have to settle for anything less than what I want. Of course, what I want is to be less than a three-hour drive from almost all my family members. Trent said he'll be happy either way, so we're just going to leave this up to God.
Since Trent has time away from the Braves, he's been doing several home improvement projects ... repainting the office and guest bedroom, sanding and refinishing furniture from our childhood. Home Depot replaced the carpeting in both rooms too. Basically, we're doing some things so that, should I get offered (and accept) a job at WSU, we'll be able to put the house on the market. Of course, if we decide to stay here, then WE can enjoy the improvements we're making. Either way, it's a win-win.
I hope all is well for my Fiddler Kin. Love you!

Katie glad you were able to make your flight to KC and help your friend celebrate her new life. I watched some video on the news of cars sliding down a road and crashing into each other and one truck even hit a tree, but it appeared no one was hurt in the vehicle ice-dancing Olympics.
That is exciting news about applying at WSU. It would be pretty cool to have you closer to home. I wish William Jewel had an opening. I spoke with one of my clients who is on the faculty there and asked her how liberal the college was regarding curriculum. It was her opinion that since they broke away from the Baptist church they were much more liberal, especially the staff. I guess some of the students attend because their parents are alumni, but that was back when it was part of the baptist church and so some of the students are more challenged by the broad scope. Anyway it would be great to have you in the northland, but that is pretty unlikely I guess, but still 3 hours is better than 14. If WSU is smart they will jump at the opportunity to have you on their staff, but it is also good that you are happy and at peace at where you are now, so you can be selective and make the decision that is in both your best interests. I think it is great that Trent just jumps into those home improvement projects like that. Maybe he should become bonded and hire himself out.
Keep us posted on WSU.
Thanks for your encouragement, Margaret! It would be pretty cool to live up in Liberty ... I like that city a lot; plus, it's closer to KC. But I would definitely take Wichita, too.
Trent's got some connections at the university from his time in graduate school there, so he's optimistic that he might be able to get back into sports information if we made the move. He's also commented on the fact that no one down here knows where ESU and WSU are (that's where his degrees are from), and that makes it tougher to get into his line of work.
We'll see what happens, and we'll be at peace with whatever comes our way. Love you!!
I am happy you made it safely back to Kansas for your friend's wedding, Katie. I am sure your family welcomed the chance to spend some time with you too.
I am glad you got your application in at WSU. That location seems like it would work well for both you and Trent. I know the Fiddler and Mason families would be thrilled if you could move closer to home.
Don't forget about Fort Hays State University, when you consider schools in Kansas. Hays is small, but the town has a progressive outlook. Fort Hays has a good reputation for providing quality education at a reasonable price.
I think it would be cool to live in Lawrence. There is great diversity there. But then, I am starting to sound meddlesome. Sorry. It is exciting, though, to think of you coming back home.
You are a talented, creative teacher. Any school of higher learning would be lucky to have you on staff. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and Trent. I hope that things will work out for your benefit and his; no matter what the outcome is. Being at peace and ready to accept whatever happens is a good way to approach the process.
Trent is a hard worker with a lot of skills. It is nice that he is so versatile.
It sounds like you are prepared to enjoy life wherever the road leads. You are off to a great start on a new year and a new decade. Cheers!!!
Thanks for your encouragement, Honor, and thanks for sharing your perspective on FHSU. Unfortunately, I have to wait around for jobs to open up at universities before I can apply. KU did have a job opening four years ago when I was on the job market, but after speaking to the person who was currently in that position (she's now in Colorado), I withdrew my application; it sounded like way too much work for one person, and I'm not interested in killing myself for a job. What's the point, right?
I hope you're staying warm and cozy out there in Hays, Honor. I can picture you sipping hot tea and reading poetry right now. :-)
