Been a while since I've posted on the family blog, so I thought I'd post up on of many projects I'm working on, one of two sci-fi novels (big I know).
What follows is an excerpt from the journal of Dax Jenkins.
April 23, 2541AAC (After Ancient Civilization)
"From the day I was born i was told strange tales about my
ancestors, about an ancient race of beings that had seeded the
human race and nurtured us, bred us to hold their place in the
galaxy while they expanded outwards into the darkened depths
of space. Mom always told me how we had been the chosen
ones, those who would carry on the full and true nature of their
blood within our own...their power was our power, their
knowledge, every physical strength was ours to command.
The Ancients had left us as the sole reminder of what they
were and where the rest of humanity had come from, long ago
we had been revered, celebrated as true heirs to the empire the
keepers of the human race....long ago we once meant
something, our race was important but that has all faded
now. Resigned to living on the outer rim of the
galaxy...nomads...outcasts...wanted for our talents, our
abilities the things that had made us a once great
society...was now our only ticket to a so-called life in this
galaxy...the only thing keeping us from extinction.
A hollow life we lead taking what ever work we can find, most of us working
on starships not because it gives us opportunities for pay
but more like its what feels right, the sound of the ships
functions, the cold of the hull. It's almost as if we're drawn to
such jobs, the feeling of being out exploring the galaxy
reconnecting to our ancestors. If only we had known just how
right that feeling was and how much reconnecting would be
done."
Getting physical

Training sessions have been going really well these past few weeks. I

Way cool! I love it. You might turn me into a sci-fi fan. This excerpt is beautifully written and I want to more about the characters in this story. Keep going. One day Katie Couric might visit dear old Emporia to interview YOU. You definitely have talent!!!! Where did you get the title of this story or chapter? Don't give up. Keep going. Easy does it, one day at a time.
Honestly the title was just a last minute "I need a subject heading" thought. This story is actually on the back burner for right now but someday it will get the daylight it deserves.
Dylan Riley you are an interesting writer. Your story seems to be both one of science fiction, but also one of modern day man and the struggle we each have to find endeavors that allow us to feel fulfilled and have meaning to us. So many have talents that they don't tap because they don't feel they are either really very good at them or they are afraid someone will have a negative judgement about them. We always give more power to the negative reviews than the positive ones. Human nature.
I see someone who is about 60 years old. He is my energy therapy mentor and I see him for my cranosacral work also. Anyway he has seen and felt energy all his life and has been practicing it for about 30 plus years. He was also a military jet pilot, because that was what people would respect and he wouldn't have to explain himself. Well of course energy therapy or medicine as it is sometimes called is becoming more acceptable, although it still has many many years before it is really accepted, anyway I regress. I saw Chris last month and asked him if he was thinking of retierement. I asked for selfish reasons. He is one of the best energy therapists one could ever find, anyway his reply was very sweet and lovely, he said "I enjoy being in the service to others and as long as I can do that I will". My rambling point was that he found his calling and moved forward with it, even at a time when many rolled their eyes and I am sure thought he was nuts. Even if your job is what you do to pay the bills find at least one thing about it that gives you fulfillment jsut so that you can get some enjoyment or contment from it, but continue to pursue that which you really enjoy and motivates you. Jump on the path and enjoy the scenery, it might take you on a splendid journey to the outer reaches of the cosmos.
As a p.s. "Marbles rattling in the coffe cans of our mind" reminds me of a dog training technique. If you need to get a dog's attention or if your dogs are getting a bit out of control with each other, you take a coffee can with marbles or pebbles and you shake it and the noise startles the dogs and shifts their attention, so your title makes me think that perhaps your creative muse rattled a coffee can of marbles in your ear. As Honor said, keep up the work and always share with your kin. We love your participation. It is creative and insightful, plus since we never get to see you it is the only way to keep up with you. We need to plan a family event around your schedule so you can attend. Katie would give us each a notebook with her creative writing as gifts at Christmas and they are my most treasured of gifts. I think that each of us would love to have a booklet of your writings as well and hint hint to you Honor Louise.
Really enjoyed the excerpt...keep writing....your are talented! Love ya, ellen
