Hey, Fiddler Family (and their Relations)! Are you ready to reconnect? Let's use this blog to share and respond to the stories of our daily lives--from the monumental events to the everyday humdrums. Write about the books you're reading, the movies you're watching, the politics that piss you off. Let's share our frustrations and hurts, along with our successes and joys. Poetry, prose, lists, prayers, images--anything goes on this blog. It's time to reconnect.

I agree with Fiddler that Katie's writing class would be a great story/topic for NPR. It could also be the focus of a professional journal article; or a great start to a future book (essays, poetry, teaching guidelines?) written by Dr. Katherine Mason. The students you taught were an amazing group, Katie. Not every class is that remarkable. I hope you capture the magic in a special way so that others will be moved by your experience.
Thanks, guys. I appreciate your encouragement. :)
They really were a fun group and interesting -- they had diverse backgrounds and perspectives, so we always had interesting discussions about our daily poems and, of course, their own writing and plans for teaching writing.
We're getting together again this Thursday night for trivia at one of the local restaurants. I'm looking forward to it!
On the writing front, I'm doing a better job of making writing a part of my daily ritual. I get to work a half hour early, and I write (or jot notes or whatever ... something related to writing) for at least 30 minutes. I don't answer my phone or my door, and I don't check e-mail. I've been doing that for about 4 weeks now, trying to make writing part of my routine, something I miss if I don't get it done, rather than something I keep putting off until a deadline approaches ... or until I realize I need more publications after I get denied tenure/promotion in a couple years. ha ha ... or not.
Katie, you are amazing. You are very disciplined in every area. I think that must be the key to success. We could all take a lesson from you.
I am glad you are still in touch with your writing students, Katie. As Fiddler said, You are leaving an incredible footprint.
