I don't usually do requests...unless I'm asked for it.

The 'rents came to town this past weekend to visit...I'm sure more to see Isaiah than to see me. :) While here, my mom suggested I get on here and spell out my ultimate menu as was done in a previous post.

It's an eclectic international cuisine...
  • We start with a little paella that I had while in Cancun. I just loved it. Also in Cancun, they had the best pork tacos. The corn tortilla (as opposed to the flour tortillas I had been used to) was key.
  • While I was in England in college, there were Thai places everywhere. It was actually kind of weird. But while I was there, I got a taste for a Thai chicken curry dish. It gets my nose running.
  • While we're in that region of the world, let's include General Tso's Chicken. It's standard fare at any Chinese buffett, and I'd accept the chicken from most any those establishments. Except for China Star on Metcalf in Overland Park. Theirs is subpar if you ask me.
  • One of the best local restaurants I've been to is the Copa Room. It is an Italian joint with a Rat Pack theme. I love their lasagna, and their house salad is dynamite. Just ask Marshall. It uses a sweet vinegarette that might result in the best salad I've ever had.
  • Somewhere on my menu, I have to include a good Thanksgiving meal with a turkey that isn't dry and mashed potatoes with the good gravy over the whole thing.
  • The best burger I have had is actually the Bacon Cheeseburger at Chili's. Doesn't seem right that Chili's would take that honor.
  • For desert, we'll get some plain cheesecake with strawberry topping from the Cheesecake Factory (my wife got me onto this one) and a Boston Cream Pie from Tippins.

Mmmm....

Thanks for sharing your favorite foods. Even though I am a vegetarian, I like everything on your menu. It is nice that our family likes both national and international cuisine. Nobody has mentioned hot dogs and apple pie yet, but I like those too. The best Chinese Restaurant is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When we ate there, the owners let you eat a hamburger from McDonald's, Thomas. They did not mind that you disliked Chinese food. When I was single and lived in Hutchinson, there was a whole in the wall Italian place that made the best lasagna. The restauant was so small that the food was take out only. It closed after a few years because the owners moved to California. I love a good turkey meal, complete with pumpkin pie. I do not have a favorite hamburger place, nor a place to go for a favorite dessert. Although there is a restaurant in Council Grove that serves wonderful homemade pie. Grandma Fiddler used to make the best deep fried chicken in the world. It was good enough to make you forget about General Tso's chicken. Some of the best cooks in the world are Fiddlers and Kepkas. And lately, you never know what surprise they might be cooking up for the family.

Thanks for sharing Thomas. I don't know if you will ever get back on the blog to read this, but if you like Indian food, try Masals by Whole foods on Metcalf. We really like their weekend lunch buffet. We don't eat there for off the menu items. We are just weird that way. Have you ever been to La Bodega? It is spanish tapas. I have been wanting to try it, so if any bloggers have been there let me know your thoughts. I remember when you were little Thomas, your food choices were fairly limited to dry cereal, at least when you were at Grandma Fiddlers. I am glad to see you have expanded your food choices. Now what might me fun sometime is doing a traveling meal. Go to one place for appetizers, another for a salad, another for the entree, and finally someplace else for dessert. It would be a long evening and probably lots of driving, but maybe kind of interesting. I guess we could just go to 39th street and go from place to place in that area. Ok Ellen, Carol, Matthew and Andy weigh in, just for the fun of it.

Woo woo -- Papa Thomas has revisited the old blog. Yay! Thanks for sharing your culinary preferences. :) I'll have some of everything.

Hey, Margaret! Andy tried La Bodega this past weekend, and he loved it. I think my folks have tried it too, and they thought it was pretty good.

We don't get out much to eat...if we ever wrote down all the places we had wanted to try, it'd be a long list. But, you've inspired me to start that list. Masals -- I've never heard of it, but I'm intrigued. I've heard of La Bodega, but I've never been. After positive review, though, it will find its way on the list as well.
