Conventional Thought... IF

I think most people can identify with the thought contained in this haiku by Jack Prelutsky.

If Not For the Cat

If not for the cat
And the scarcity of cheese,
I could be content.

What is the line from the Sheryl Crow song? "It's not having what you want, but wanting what you have." If the poet decided he wanted the cat and didn't want the cheese, what would his outlook be, even in the eyes of a mouse, which I assume is the view point from which he was writing, but perhaps not, perhaps he is just a cat hating, cheese loving soul. It is in its own way pretty deep prose. It is interesting how much depth can be reached with such few words---the beauty of haiku.

I agree. There is beauty in haiku. Less is sometimes more.
