It was so wonderful to visit with almost all of you this past weekend. I loved making lasagna and organizing books and CDs with my mom. I loved taking an 18-mile bike ride with my dad. I loved eating Sheridan's frozen custard with my folks and Andy.

I loved visiting with almost all of my Fiddler Kin at Sharon's lovely home on Sunday. What a good looking, smart, caring, fun family I have!

Beth and Peter, thanks for letting us share in Jacob's third birthday celebration. He is such a sweet, smart little guy ... the kind of child parents-to-be hope for when they decide to expand their families, I bet. Way to go, you two! You're totally rocking out at parenting. :)

Margaret, thanks for the awesome back massage and the tips for Trent on getting the kinks out of my scapula (scapuli??)--ha ha! You're so very generous with your gift of healing and comfort.

Sharon, thanks for sharing your home with all of us on Sunday. It is such an inviting space for family gatherings, and you always make us feel so welcome with your tasty food and generosity.

Carol, thanks for singing Elton John's "I Guess that's Why They Call it the Blues." .... lauging like children, living like lovers, rolling like thunder ... under the covers!!! Ha ha! What a fun memory! Thanks for the laughs!!

Honor, thanks for spending time with all of us on Sunday, even though I'm sure it must have been hard to step away from your second grandson and his new parents. It's always good to spend time with you and enjoy your sense of humor and perspective.

Things are rockin' and rollin' here in GA. I began teaching summer school today, and I think I'm going to really enjoy my students. I've got 25 of them in my 6-credit-hour writing instruction course, which meets four days a week for three hours at a time. Goodbye free time; hello, grading and writing. :) Oh well, I love teaching this class, and I usually only get to teach it in the summers.

On other happy notes, Trent finally got an appointment with his surgeon (June 11), AND (!!!) I just met with our roofer and our insurance adjuster, and --- drumroll, please --- we are getting a new roof!!! I love storm and wind damage. Wahooo!!

I hope all is well in the Midwest. Love to you all!!

I am glad you made it back home safely. It was good to see you too. You look amazingly fit. And your complexion is smooth and clear as a quartz crystal. I love your quirky sense of humor. The party at Sharon's was a fun get together. I liked it when you broke out in song; singing about "the arky, arky." Your writing students are lucky to have you for an instructor. I bet you keep them on their toes.
Home ownership always requires that something else has to be done to make the home more liveable. Congratulations on the new roof. Good luck to Trent. I hope surgery can soon be scheduled so the healing process can begin.

Aw Katie, everytime I see you it reminds me of how much I miss you and wish you were closer, but I know life takes us all on different roads and some roads lead to Georgia. We are lucky that we live in the age of e-mails and blogging and what is that other thing, skypes or something? It makes it much easier to keep in touch. Honor is right you look fantastic. You are an amazing young woman, actually both my nieces are amazing when it comes down to it Well enjoy teaching summer school. I hope Trent has an easy time of it with surgery and a smooth recovery. Enjoy that new roof. Now the wind and hail can take a break. Oh I really do think you should write that children's book about the cat that acted like a dog. It might be a series of books. The adventures of Sal the cat who thought she was a dog. Catch ya on the flip side.

I did not hear the conversation about the cat who thinks she's a dog. I agree with Fiddler; that would make a cute book. I can visualize a series of The Adventures of Sal- the Cat Who Thinks She's a Dog. I know you would bring your own kind of magic to the story line. It sounds like a fun read; the kind of book children would be drawn to and want to hear over and over.

Hiya, you two! Thanks for your kind words and ever-present encouragement. It is always such a treat to see my beautiful, funny, smart family ...

I mentioned both of you in my writing class today. We were talking about writing territories (subjects we've written about--or would like to, genres we've tried--or would like to, and audiences we written for--or would like to).

I included you both as audiences I've written for (and would like to again). I talked, also, about members of our family like to give writing as gifts, and then I shared some of those gifts with my students. It was lovely.

I'm blessed to have a family who puts so much love into the words they share with one another.
