I helped Andy and his friend, Jeff, pack up Andy's apartment today. (Trent had to work a Braves game.) I had the pleasure of cleaning Andy's bathroom. I won't go into any details here. (Have fun, Mom and Dad!)
I also "escorted" Andy out of Atlanta. I drove behind him down I-85, west on 285, and north on I-75 to my exit. I have to admit I felt a little nostalgic (and, perhaps, envious) as I watched his Budget truck with the green Mazda on a trailer toodle north on I-75 toward Kansas.
Andy was a great source of support for me while Trent was in New Mexico, and he was my weekend biking and hiking buddy, particularly since Trent has to work most weekends. I'll miss my little brother, but I know he's looking forward to getting back to Kansas. Georgia won't be the same without him.
I wonder if he'll lose his southern accent once he's acclimated to Kansas again ... you guys will have to let me know.

You are good big sister! Packing, cleaning and then escorting Andy out of town has to be a true bonding experience. I know you will miss Andy, and I am sure he will miss you. He is a a real mensch.. someone who uderstands and is there for you. I hope he likes it here in Kansas. This post is very touching, because it is sad and happy at the same time. And that's what life is, more often than not.
Katie,
You are a brave big sister....I heard about the bathroom! I am glad you and Andy had several months together in Atlanta....most siblings don't get those great opportunities to play, bicycle, and goof around together on a regular basis as adults. You two were smart to make the most of shared times. I know you will always be there for each other...in fun times and in crappy times...that's what a great relationship provides. As a mother, it makes me very happy.

Ah Katie, you are a wonderful big sis. We are all happy to have Andy return to Kansas and are very much hoping that we will see the return of you and Trent somewhere down the road. I know you and Andy have a very special brother/sister relationship. You are both very lucky. I am glad he was there for you in Atlanta and you were both able to strenghten your bond. We look to the day when you put on your ruby slippers or New Balance tennies and follow the yellow brick road back to Kansas too.
Katie we hope you will be able to make your way back home again soon. We miss you too. I know things didn't work as planned for Trent but, I'm glad he is there for you now that Andy is back in Kansas.
Thanks, you guys!!! Hopefully, I'll see you all soon ... Memorial Day weekend!
