Hey, Fiddler Family (and their Relations)! Are you ready to reconnect? Let's use this blog to share and respond to the stories of our daily lives--from the monumental events to the everyday humdrums. Write about the books you're reading, the movies you're watching, the politics that piss you off. Let's share our frustrations and hurts, along with our successes and joys. Poetry, prose, lists, prayers, images--anything goes on this blog. It's time to reconnect.

Hi, Honor.
I'm not sure I have answers to your questions. Okay, I'm SURE I don't have the answers, but I will say this ...
I think Bush embodied the stereotypical masculine qualities of "quick, decisive action" and "that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it--no matter what." He seemed to always see things in black and white, and once his mind was made up, he wouldn't consider alternative perspectives.
In fact, we often hear criticism of people who change their minds in politics; they become "flip-floppers."
You know, I think a little mind changing is healthy. When you're presented with additional information, and you begin to come to new understandings and see things from multiple perspectives (rather than just your own limited one), and when you begin to empathize with other people, your mind should change. And that's a good thing.
I think too many people see "mind changing" as a weak feminine trait, and I think that's just a load of bull.
This doesn't mean that we want someone who's going to change his/her mind on a whim to suit lobbyists and other stake(money)holders, but we should want someone who's going to constantly seek out new information in order to lead this country in a more promising direction.
Whether that's a man or a woman--I don't know. I think Obama is off to a good start. He can admit his mistakes; he listens carefully; and he's sockin' it to the big wig bank executives, instead of catering to them.
It's about damn time, too.
I think reforming an opinion based on new information is a good thing too. The best leaders do it. Others just try to please whomever. Those are the real flip floppers. They look at the latest poll and not critical information. A lot of people in Congress have been bought and sold by wall street. Others get by with breaking the law because they are in powerful positions. We should use a real critical eye in two years when conressional elections take place and get rid of the crooks.
