Hello, family. Long time, no write. Sorry about that. From several of your blog posts, it sounds like all is well in the Midwest. Carol and Tom are showing their adventurous spirits while planning for clean get-aways as they trespass (??) on old missile bases. Margaret is fixing nutritious meals for her family and caring for Cujo and a pup with low self-esteem. And Honor has shared blessings with us for a fulfilling new year.
I just finished watching President Obama's swearing in. I caught the musical performance beforehand, Obama's speech, and Elizabeth's Alexander's poem afterward. It was pretty amazing, and I am filled with hope and courage.
As you know, Trent is home (flew in Jan. 7--exactly three months after he left), and I am so, so happy. This past weekend would have been his visit back to Atlanta (and he would have returned to NM yesterday), had he stayed for his training, and I'm thankful that he's here instead of there. His shoulder is still hurting, and he's jumping through government hoops in order to schedule an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who will work with the federal government's workman's comp program. He's frustrated about that, but we're both happy to spend time together. We've been taking walks around the neighborhood, and yesterday we took a hike near Kennesaw Mountain.
Two weekends ago, Andy generously helped us replace the battery and alternator in the F150, which had been sitting immobile in the garage since Trent left in October. His expertise helped save us a few hundred dollars in labor, so we're hoping to repay him with some meals at Buckhead Burrito and a Saturday or Sunday at Stone Mountain Park.
In other news, I chopped off 10 inches of hair again to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which makes wigs for women with cancer. (Locks of Love makes wigs for people with alopecia) It's refreshing not to have my hair hanging all over the place; it doesn't get caught in my bag straps, and Sal doesn't sit on my pillow and try to eat it when I sleep at night.
It's cold here today, so I'm "working" from home. I know I'm blessed to have that kind of flexibility in my work.
Here's to a new year and new leadership for our country!

Training sessions have been going really well these past few weeks. I

Katie The new year has brought lots of changes. Yours seem to be good ones. Get Well Wishes To Trent! I'm glad he is home. You have a special brother and I guess he has a birthday this week. Hope the year brings him something extra good. Well I feel your energy and strenght and that makes me happy. By the way I do not recommend trespassing. Curiosity needs limits sometimes. I think that day at the missle site was one of them. Sorry I set a bad example.
Welcome home to Trent. I hope his shoulder gets attention quickly. I know good things await you both in the year ahead. I too watched Tuesday's festivities. Did anyone else think the person who announced Obama sounded a lot like the guy who announces wrestlers and boxers. "Weighing in at 165 pounds President elect Barack Obamaaaaa!" The crowd goes wild. It was good to see the country so upbeat and positive and everyone getting along. If only we could keep that up, collectively. It will be an interesting year. I have to admit that I don't think Hilary would have generated the exuberance and joy that Pres. Obama did on Tuesday. I don't think it would have felt so lighthearted, even though the tone was very serious, it still left you feeling good. Aretha Franklin did an outstanding job with "America". I hummed it the rest of the day. The two little "first girls" are gorgeous and very captivating. Carol regarding your missel(sp?) site adventure, sometimes it is good to explore outside the box. I think the saying is curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back. Wishing one and all a year of good things and may the writing on the wall be messages of cheer.
I want a HAT like Aretha Franklin's. Her song was one of the highlights of the inauguration. The hat was the icing on the cake. I also liked the benediction. We all have to work together to make the world a better place. I am glad Trent is home. I hope he gets medical help soon. It was nice of Andy to repair Trent's truck. Now he has transportation. I am trying to imagine Katie with shorter hair. Ten inches of hair is a LOT of hair. I am sure Pantene Beautiful Lengths appreciate the contribution.
Hillary Clinton would have had a different kind of inauguration. Women every where would have been rejoicing. I wish her well in her new appointment. She has a lot of challenges ahead of her. So far I like everything Obama has done. It bodes well for the future.
I forgot about the new "hairdo". Wow Katie! Good for you to be so giving of yourself---and hair. You have beautiful hair so I know it will make someone very happy who is in an unfortunate circumstance. Send a pic of your new look.
I agree with Fiddler. Please post a picture soon Katie. We want to see your new look. Fiddler is right. You have lovely, healthy hair. It will make a beautiful hair piece for someone. Please keep us posted on how Trent is doing too.
